Survey finds nurse leaders aspire to greater influence
A nationwide survey of nurse leaders identified staffing, well-being and communication as top challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Half of the more than 200 respondents, including assistant managers, managers, directors and chief nursing officers, indicated they felt shut out of decisions about nursing care. AONL member Lori Armstrong, is DNP, RN, CEO and chief clinical officer of Inspire Nurse Leaders, which conducted the survey. She said the pandemic has put nurses in a position to advocate for change and greater authority. “Nurses are the most influential link to quality of care," Armstrong said, adding that nurses should be the deciding voice for decisions about nursing care and staffing.
