Interprofessional teams key to reducing nurse workload
While hospitals nationwide are implementing virtual nursing to reduce burnout, nurse leaders say hospitals should leverage interprofessional teams to outsource non-nursing tasks performed by nurses to other departments. Derek Godino, senior program director of nursing at Geisinger Health System in Danville, Pa., says health systems need to reimagine workflows at a system level, rather than individual units. Nurse leaders also suggested learning from other industries how to integrate technology and then adapt some of those strategies into health care workflows. In addition, they said artificial intelligence and ambient listening could remove tasks and documentation burdens from nurses. (HealthLeaders Media article, 3/21/25)
