Leadership Lab: Leadership Development for Nurse Managers
The Leadership Laboratory is a blended learning program (virtual sessions and online work) held over a six-month period. The program is a fresh format for the leadership development of nurse managers and is facilitated by Dr. Barbara Mackoff.
Grounded in peer-to-peer consultation and evidence-based management, this program maximizes opportunities for managers to advise each other and convey wisdom and best practices in dealing with shared leadership issues in the context of evidence-based management.
"This has been very informative for me as a new Nurse Manager! Not only have I garnished wise examples of successful practice, but I know that I am not alone with all these issues! Another surprise meeting monthly with other Managers in my facility has created a great rapport and support system as well."
Program Impact
Through interactions with colleagues from across the country, nurse managers have the opportunity to develop expertise on topics and challenges relevant to their leadership practice. Groups from the same facility are encouraged to participate together to reinforce learning.
What to Expect
Each monthly Leadership Lab is organized around one of six key leadership practices. The lab consists of interactive discussion posts, videos and periodic readings and assessments leading up to a Live Learning Lab. Participants can expect to spend approximately 1.5 hours of online work leading up to the Live Learning Lab and 1.5 hours on the Live Learning Lab Zoom meeting.
Intended Audience
Early- and mid-careerist nurse managers.
Course Faculty & Facilitator
Dr. Mackoff is a consulting psychologist, author of Nurse Manager Engagement, educator and a recognized authority on nursing management and leadership. She is a Fulbright specialist and has brought the leadership lab to an international audience.
