Administration cancels grants focused on care disparities

The Trump administration canceled dozens of National Institutes of Health grants funding health equity research, including research on Black maternal and fetal health and HIV. Health and Human Services said the research does not align with NIH and HHS objectives to “prioritize research that directly affects the health of Americans.” HHS also canceled at least 68 grants for research studying LGBT health, including those on cancer, youth suicide and bone health. Researchers who conduct disparities research point out their work improves the health of all Americans, including rural white populations often overlooked in debates about diversity and equity.
