Researchers list optimal steps for infection control in operating rooms
Eight recommendations for optimizing infection control and operating room management stand on a substantial body of empirical evidence characterizing the epidemiology of perioperative transmission and infection development, according to the authors of a recent paper. Their recommendations include precise directions for positioning various disinfectants in the operating room and guidance on when to use them. The recommendations also address staffing, scheduling and post-operative care. The research was funded in part by the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation and by the department of anesthesiology at the University of Iowa. (Anesthesia & Analgesia article, 3/26/20)
