Leader finds ways to supports critical care nurses during pandemic
In a recent interview with HealthLeaders Media, the president of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, Megan Brunson, RN, MSN, CCRN-CSC, CNL, shared ways nurse leaders can support nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. From her vantage point as night shift supervisor for the cardiovascular intensive care unit at Medical City Dallas, she found nurses feel supported when their leaders walk through their work spaces masked and gowned; encourage staff to speak up when they have concerns; acknowledge and discuss moral and ethical conflicts; and ensure staff have adequate supplies and access to counseling. She also encouraged nurse leaders to empower nurses to implement creative solutions and share them with others. (HealthLeaders Media story, 4/8/20)
