Ohio Rep. Joyce supports nursing, praises ‘unsung heroes’
In an editorial, Rep. David Joyce, D-Ohio, expressed his gratitude for the people fighting to save lives during the COVID-19 pandemic. Calling nurses “unsung heroes” and “the lifeline of our nation’s health care system,” he pointed out the country will face a dire shortage of nurses in the coming decade without consistent investment in Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs. As co-chair of the Congressional Nursing Caucus, Joyce advocated for the inclusion of funds for personal protective equipment and nursing workforce development programs in the recent CARES Act. “It is absolutely critical that we safeguard and provide for those who put their lives on the line treating patients suffering from this deadly virus,” he wrote.
