Joint Commission supports steps to prevent nosocomial COVID-19 infections
The Joint Commission announced its support for several practices as hospitals resume services put on hold during the first wave of the pandemic. The recommendations include universal masking; use of filtering facepiece respirators for procedures with high risk of infection transmission; discontinuation of crisis operating standards; and COVID-19 testing prior to elective surgery. Organizations are also encouraged to check with state and local health departments to learn about their specific requirements. (Joint Commission Online story, 6/3/20)
