JHU offers plan to bolster health care during COVID-19
Experts at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Center for Health Security published a national plan this week for expanding and adapting the U.S. health care system to better address the COVID-19 pandemic. The authors note an urgent near term need to address key challenges and vulnerabilities surfacing in recent months. Supply chain issues related to personal protective equipment (PPE) figure prominently in the document, which notes no government agency is responsible for tracking PPE supplies. The plan also includes recommendations for restarting deferred services, providing mental health support to health workers and normalizing the delivery of health services via telehealth.
