Excess deaths 26.5% higher this year among younger adults
Almost 300,000 more Americans died this past year than in 2019, and deaths among adults aged 25-44 years old increased the most, by 26.5%. The finding comes from a recent report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on excess deaths in 2020. The prevalence of COVID-19 in younger populations increased this summer, but the report noted the increase in excess deaths among this group of younger adults "might also be related to underlying trends in other causes of death."
