Nurses explain pandemic-inspired infusion pump protocol
To improve care delivery, conserve personal protective equipment and limit the exposure to SARS-CoV-2, nurses at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City relocated smart IV infusion pumps outside of patient rooms in the early months of the pandemic. In the February issue of the American Journal of Nursing, the nurses explain their initial concerns regarding the safety and efficacy of this innovative practice; the research they conducted with colleagues in nursing, pharmacy, infection control, and patient safety in the face of scant clinical literature relevant to the difficult circumstances the pandemic created; and the strategies they employed to maintain safety and efficacy.
