NYC nurse leader shares lessons learned during pandemic
“Leadership in times of uncertainty, such as a disaster, requires intentional acts of role modeling,” writes AONL member Cynthia Caroselli, PhD, RN, in Medscape’s November Nursing Economics. The associate health care system director and chief nurse executive at the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System in New York City recounts the lessons she learned while responding to the needs of veterans and other New Yorkers during the initial wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Among Caroselli’s conclusions, “Health care leaders must prepare staff for the future by building stronger organizations based on lessons learned, a reaffirmation of values fundamental to health care, and a commitment to creativity in patient care and staff advocacy.”
