Leaders share views on optimal allocation of nursing resources
With the pandemic adding additional urgency to issues surrounding resource allocation, a 2020 report coauthored by Robyn Begley, DNP, RN, AONL CEO and senior vice president and chief nursing officer of the American Hospital Association, was especially timely. Begley and her coauthors, Pamela F. Cipriano, PhD, RN, University of Virginia School of Nursing professor and dean and former president of the American Nurses Association, and Todd Nelson, MBA, Healthcare Financial Management Association director of partnership relationships and chief partnership executive, recently shared their insights on improving the relationship between chief nursing and chief financial officers in the October issue of the Journal of Nursing Administration (JONA). The discussion touched on creative staffing, interprofessional collaboration and ways finance and nursing leaders can reach a shared understanding of value.
