Health system standardizes its COVID-19 accommodations review process
The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the health care workforce, significantly increasing accommodation requests from employees. In response, Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore established a COVID-19 Accommodation Review Committee to standardize its approach to accommodation requests. The committee brings together experts from occupational health, legal and human resources departments and an Americans with Disabilities Act coordinator to review accommodation requests and their contexts. The committee meets weekly and considers availability of personal protective equipment, the severity of the employee’s condition and the employee’s safety. The complete process appeared in the April issue of the American Journal of Nursing.
