AHA podcast discusses how to reduce maternal mortality

An American Hospital Association podcast explores how Ochsner Health in New Orleans is reducing maternal mortality by prioritizing equity. Because the majority of maternal deaths occur after the mother leaves the hospital and up to one year after giving birth, Ochsner targets the social drivers of health, such as making sure mothers have transportation to and from postpartum appointments. The hospital ensures women with severe hypertension get a blood pressure check three days after leaving the hospital. Ochsner also participates in the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health’s quality improvement initiative to support best practices to make birth safer, improve maternal health outcomes and save lives.
