AONL asks DHS to designate nursing as a STEM field

AONL signed onto a letter requesting the Department of Homeland Security include nursing on its Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Designated Degree Program list. Spearheaded by the American Nurses Association, the letter states nursing is “an important STEM profession that advances health and science across many disciplines.” The letter also notes other government agencies consider nursing as a STEM field. Designating nursing as a STEM field could improve workforce development, funding and immigration policy, as well as lead to more scholarship opportunities for individuals interested in pursuing nursing as a career.
