Experts: Patients put at risk by removal of government website health data
Infectious disease experts say removing data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website ─ as well as other federal health websites ─ is putting patient care and public health at risk. Altering or removing infectious disease data does not eliminate the diseases themselves or their risks, they say. The Trump administration has made some of the data inaccessible and is firing workers responsible for maintaining the databases. Affected databases include information about Ebola, as well as those mentioning gender identity or sexual orientation. In addition, website disruptions have slowed National Institutes of Health grant funding. The NIH has not released a grant or notice of opportunity since Jan. 22. There are usually up to 40 announcements each week. (MedPage Today article, 2/14/25)
