CDC updates list of high-risk conditions for severe COVID-19
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its list of high-risk conditions for severe COVID-19 to reflect evidence reported in the scientific literature through Aug. 31, 2021. Conditions are grouped by the strength of the evidence for their inclusion. One large cross-sectional study of risk factors reported patients with multiple conditions increased their risk. Obesity, diabetes with complications, and anxiety and fear-related disorders had the strongest association with death; the risk associated with a condition increased with age. The update also included actions providers can take when treating patients with high-risk conditions. (CDC update, 10/14/21)
