CDC updates facility infection control guidance
The latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) infection control guidance focuses on limiting the ways germs can enter a facility, quickly isolating symptomatic patients and protecting health care personnel. The interim guidance reflects better understanding of coronavirus transmission and continuing shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE). Cancelling elective procedures, using telemedicine, emphasizing hand hygiene, managing facility points of entry, isolating patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19, and prioritizing airborne infection isolation rooms for patients undergoing aerosol-generating procedures remain central tenets. The guidance also includes strategies for optimizing PPE to extend supplies.
