CDC/NIOSH host discussion of health worker mental health
Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) hosted a virtual event to lay out the agency’s five-part plan to improve and protect the mental health and well-being of America's health care workers. NIOSH Director John Howard, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy and national experts from labor and medicine discussed the mental health of the nation’s health care workforce. The plan takes a primary prevention approach to identifying and eliminating risk factors for burnout and stress. NIOSH is planning a social marketing campaign so health care workers under stress feel less alone. NIOSH plans to partner with the American Hospital Association and other health care organizations to combat burnout. The event recording will be posted on the NIOSH website in the coming days.
