NQF outlines model for end-of-life care
A recent report from the National Quality Forum (NQF), The Care We Need: Driving Better Health Outcomes for People and Communities, outlines a model for person-centered care that reorients health systems around a patient’s unique goals and needs at the end of life. The model emphasizes seven key areas of care, including pain and symptom management, safety and autonomy and quality of life. The authors identify listening as a transformative health care tool and call on providers to focus on understanding their patients’ greatest concerns, such as religious and cultural preferences. The report concludes with a call for performance metrics aligned with person-centered care. (Accreditation Insider article, 10/27/20)
