IHI project seeks to help nurses thrive

An article in Nurse Leader’s June issue describes an Institute for Health Improvement-led project to study care models that attract, support and strengthen a diverse nursing workforce using a three-phased approach. The first phase identified nursing models and promising clinical practices promoting a thriving nursing workforce. The second phase, underway, entails five health systems testing ideas to enable nurses to practice to the top of their licenses and maximize time with patients ─ two criteria shown to increase recruitment and retention. The systems are collaborating and sharing insights with each other. During the third phase, IHI will develop and disseminate a toolkit of project learnings and implementation guidance. AONL is a key partner in the work.
