Nurse on NAM Burnout committee highlights study take-aways
In a recent post, Johns Hopkins University Professor Cynda Hylton Rushton, PhD, RN, shared key take-aways from Taking Action Against Clinician Burnout: A Systems Approach to Professional Well-Being, a report of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). “The committee concluded that while strong evidence was lacking to recommend specific systemic interventions, emerging evidence suggests that investments in strategies to improve work and learning environments can mitigate burnout and promote clinician well-being,” she wrote. The committee identified six overarching goals for addressing clinician burnout. These include creating positive work and learning environments; reducing administrative burdens and barriers to seeking support; enabling technological solutions; and investing in research. Rushton was one of two nurses, along with AONL member Sharon Pappas, PhD, RN, who served on the NAM committee that produced the consensus study report. (Off the Charts story, 11/4/19)
