Nurse leaders share views on the profession’s future
As the tumultuous events of 2020 came to a close,10 nurse leaders spoke with the American Journal of Nursing about how their thoughts and expectations for the future of nursing had shifted during the past year. Many comments understandably related to the COVID-19 pandemic, but others varied greatly. Mary Beth Kingston, PhD, RN, chief nursing officer at Advocate Aurora Health in Milwaukee and immediate past president of AONL, cited an imperative for nursing to move beyond hospitals into communities and homes. Other nurse leaders discussed the need for collaboration between health departments and school nurses and the benefits of forming a collective practice community inclusive of all levels of nursing practice.
