Patient mobility program shows promising results
A large scale, hospitalwide implementation of a mobility promotion program at a safety net hospital improved patient mobility, a study found. Published in the March issue of the American Journal of Nursing, the researchers used a pre- and post-implementation design in inpatient units. They used eight key strategies based on the Translating Research into Practice implementation science framework to provide all patients with a daily mobility goal during their stay and ensure front-line staff used the goal as a metric to move patients every day. The program resulted in significantly more patients transferring to a chair or demonstrating additional movement and significantly fewer patients lying in bed compared with baseline results.
