Zimmermann Discusses the Value of Nurse Recognition

AONL Board President-elect Deborah Zimmermann, DNP, RN, spoke with HealthLeaders Media about the value of recognizing nurses. The DAISY Foundation CEO said expressing gratitude to nurses is intrinsically rewarding, unlike compensation and other performance incentives, and it benefits patients and health care organizations as well as nurses themselves. "I'm thrilled that the researchers have linked meaningful recognition to reductions in burnout, higher levels of job satisfaction, greater job commitment, higher levels of employee performance, and motivation," Zimmermann said.
