Joint Commission, NAHQ form alliance

The Joint Commission and the National Association for Healthcare Quality formed an alliance to adopt a universal quality competency framework and standardize workforce education and certification. The Joint Commission will endorse and encourage health care organizations to adopt NAHQ’s Healthcare Quality Competency Framework. The framework will not be a requirement for Joint Commission accreditation or certification, and it will not be scored or determine survey or review outcomes. Second, the Joint Commission will obtain and maintain NAHQ’s Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality certification. The organizations will co-develop training and education programs. NAHQ will endorse the Joint Commission accreditation and certification approaches and products as best practices for assessing quality and safety. The organizations will remain separate but will maintain representation on each other’s boards. (Joint Commission news release, 11/19/24)
