Year-long program pairs nurses, physicians in training
Some students at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing are taking part in a year-long interprofessional education model that pairs first-year nursing with second-year medical students for clinical rotations. Together they conduct health histories and physical assessments. They also assess patients’ social determinants of health and collaborate on developing care plans. The program, based at NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island in Mineola, N.Y., immerses students in collaborative practice over the course of an entire academic year. The benefits of interprofessional collaboration include fewer preventable errors, reduced health care costs and better relationships among clinicians. (HealthLeaders Media article, 3/21/22)
