UTMC develops bedside nurse career path

The University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC), Knoxville, developed a career path for its nurses, detailed in a September Voice of Nursing Leadership article. The authors noted the career path offers a roadmap for future professional development and is intended to show nurses how to advance professionally while remaining at the bedside. The career path also facilitates discussions between managers and team members about advancement opportunities. Consisting of 10 levels beginning with the nurse resident and ending at the CEO, the career path was developed through a collaborative process involving the CNO, the nurse executive team and shared governance council leadership.
