Study: Non-white nurses more likely to intend to leave jobs
A study of the effects of race and workplace racism on nurses’ intent to leave their jobs found non-white nurses intended to leave at nearly twice the rate of their white counterparts. Researchers at Rutgers University School of Nursing in Newark, N.J., based their findings on a statewide sample of 788 hospital-based nurses. Non-white nurses in the study reported negative racial climates, multiple racial microaggression experiences, and high job dissatisfaction and emotional distress connected with their work environments. The researchers concluded there is an urgent need to mitigate workplace racism to retain nurses of color in hospitals. (Nursing Outlook article, 5/3/22)
