Strategies for cultivating nurse leaders explored
Cultivating nurse leaders from younger generations requires a shift in expectations around work/life balance. That is the view of Maria Knecht, DNP, RN, vice president of nursing and clinical operations at NorthShore University HealthSystem's Glenbrook (Ill.) Hospital, who spoke with HealthLeaders Media. In looking for future leaders, Knecht seeks people who are passionate, courageous, self-aware, able to build trust and be positive but realistic. She recommends giving potential leaders opportunities to serve. She also informs them they can multiply their impact on patients by taking on leadership roles. (HealthLeaders Media article, 5/12/22)
