States expand Medicaid coverage for new mothers
Maine, Minnesota, New Mexico and Washington, D.C. extended Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) coverage for 12 months after pregnancy, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced earlier this week. Up to an additional 15,000 people annually in these states will have access to Medicaid or CHIP coverage for a full year after pregnancy. A total of 253,000 parents have gained access to 12 months of postpartum coverage through Medicaid and CHIP during the Biden-Harris Administration, CMS said. (CMS news release, 6/16/22)
