Program results in improvements to nurse resilience
An experiential educational program led to sustained improvements in front-line nurses’ ability to address ethical challenges effectively. Published in May in the American Journal of Critical Care, the program consisted of six workshops conducted over 12 weeks. The curriculum included role-play, guided mindfulness, case studies and high-fidelity simulation training to strengthen the skills, tools and resources to augment moral resilience. The 245 participating nurses filled out surveys showing improvements in ethical confidence, moral competence, resilience, work engagement and mindfulness. They showed decreases in emotional exhaustion, depression and anger. Nurses who face ethical challenges are at risk for moral distress and burnout, challenging their ability to provide safe, high-quality patient care. (Newswise release, 4/26/23)
