Kingston interviews her mentor, Disch

AONL Past President Mary Beth Kingston, PhD, RN, discussed professional generosity, board service and the characteristics nurse leaders need to weather crises with her mentor Joanne Disch, PhD, RN, in the December issue of the Journal of Nursing Administration. Disch serves on the board of directors of Advocate Aurora Health, based in Downers Grove, Ill., where Kingston is chief nurse executive, and was the health system’s inaugural chair. The two discussed how the nursing lens informs everything nurses do, and Disch shared the mantra that has guided her impressive career: “Information is power, but relationships are the key.” The article is an abridged version of an earlier interview, which took place at the AONL Virtual Conference in 2020.
