Health care leaders offer methods to mitigate workforce shortages
Developing workforce pipelines, establishing effective succession planning and using artificial intelligence (AI) to determine staffing needs are three strategies that health care leaders are using to recruit and retain employees. In the May/June edition of HealthLeaders magazine, executives at Children’s Hospital Colorado discussed how its medical career collaborative exposes 160 students from diverse backgrounds each year to health care careers. Indiana University Health, Indianapolis, has prioritized succession planning, resulting in higher retention, lower hiring costs and organizational stability. Sanford Health has employed an AI predictive analytics tool to increase its accuracy in determining staffing needs from 60% to 90%, leading to improved workforce satisfaction among nurses and nurse managers.
