Executive offers insight to attract and retain long-term care nurses
Long-term care facilities can implement effective strategies to attract and retain nurses to return staffing to safe levels, according to Reginald Hislop III, a health care executive and industry thought leader. In a conversation with HealthLeaders Media, he noted long-term care leaders should appreciate and recognize staff, encourage but not mandate overtime, and communicate directly with staff about work-life challenges, burnout and patient safety. To attract nurses, facilities can offer competitive wages, improve workplace satisfaction, offer support, allow self-scheduling and get creative about improving work-life balance, such as partnering with daycare facilities to offer childcare subsidies for their employees.
