Disposable gowns may expose clinicians to infection, study finds
Disposable hospital gowns intended to protect health care workers from the splatter of bodily fluids may fall short of safety standards and leave them with a greater risk of infection, a peer-reviewed study found. ECRI, a nonprofit focused on health care safety, is conducting a similar study to test the safety of disposable gowns; preliminary results showed that the gowns may not meet safety standards. Transitioning to reusable gowns could be a safer, cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative. (Kaiser Health News article, 7/6/22)
