Congress introduces resolutions to honor nurses
Reps. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Texas, and David Joyce, R-Ohio, and Sens. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., and Roger Wicker, R-Miss., introduced resolutions to recognize National Nurses Week. The resolutions (H.R. 1100 and S.R. 626) noted nurses are “the largest single component of the health care profession” and “the cornerstone of the public health infrastructure,” and they encouraged “the people of the United States to observe National Nurses Week with appropriate recognition, ceremonies, activities, and programs to demonstrate the importance of nurses to the everyday lives of patients.” Joyce and Merkley are married to nurses, and Johnson was the first RN elected to Congress. More than 70 legislators from both parties joined in co-sponsoring the bills. (Rep. David Joyce news release, 5/10/2022)
