Allegheny Health implements internal travel nurse program
Allegheny Health Network’s mobile internal staffing model will reduce the health system’s dependence on agency nurses and offer its employees a flexible work option. The Pittsburgh-based system’s Chief Nurse Executive Claire Zangerle said the Work Your Way program is intended to attract nurses who permanently left the health system for travel work, new nurses and travel nurses. Surgical technologists and other team members can participate in the program as well. The six-week positions offer “premium pay”, as well as mileage reimbursement for employees traveling more than 50 miles to work and lodging reimbursement for employees traveling more than 75 miles to work. The health system can move a nurse from the original assignment if it has an urgent need at another hospital. Zangerle is an AONL board member. (HealthLeadersMedia article, 8/29/22)
