AHA podcasts feature gun violence toll, care for complex patients
An American Hospital Association (AHA) podcast on gun violence featured Chethan Sathya, MD, director of Northwell Health’s Center for Gun Violence Research, and Laura Castellanos, associate director of AHA’s Hospitals Against Violence Initiative. They discussed the cost to hospitals and health systems as they treat a growing number of gun violence victims, as well as what the New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell’s Center for Gun Violence Prevention is doing to prevent gun violence. Another AHA podcast featured Julia Resnick, director of AHA’s Strategic Initiatives, Stacy Bank, MD, medical director of University of Utah Health’s Intensive Outpatient Clinic, and Chad Westover, chief executive officer of Utah Health Plans. They discussed how the clinic partners with the health plan to provide wraparound medical and social care to some of the health care system’s most at-risk patients. A third AHA podcast released this week featured AHA Board Chair Wright Lassiter III and Julie Yaroch, DO, president of ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital in Adrian, Mich., on the challenges facing rural hospitals.
