AHA calls on DOJ to take action against workplace violence
In a March 23 letter, the American Hospital Association (AHA) asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) to support legislation to protect health care workers from assault and intimidation. “Since the onset of the pandemic, … violence against hospital employees has markedly increased — and there is no sign it is receding. Studies indicate 44% of nurses report experiencing physical violence and 68% report experiencing verbal abuse during the pandemic,” the letter stated. Last year, DOJ took action to address the rise in violent behavior on commercial aircraft. AHA asked the department to support legislation aimed at providing similar protections to health care workers. (AHA letter, 3/23/22)
