National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing Established
A commission to examine and confront the issue of racism within nursing and its impact on nurses, patients, communities and health care systems held its inaugural meeting this week. AONL is a member of the commission, led by an ethnically diverse group of national organizations representing nursing practice. “AONL looks forward to partnering with our nursing colleagues in this important work,” said Robyn Begley, AONL CEO and American Hospital Association senior vice president workforce and chief nursing officer. “Nurses and nurse leaders are in a unique position to confront racism and create meaningful change in health systems and communities.” (ANA Enterprise news release, 1/25/21)
