HHS health literacy grants aim to promote vaccination of underserved populations
To encourage COVID-19 safety and vaccination among underserved populations, the Biden administration will invest $250 million in health literacy grants to cities, counties, parishes or other similar entities. The initiative, Advancing Health Literacy to Enhance Equitable Community Responses to COVID-19, will fund roughly 30 urban and 43 rural projects over the next two years. Grantees need to develop a disparity impact statement using local data and a health literacy plan that will reach minority and vulnerable populations in need of public health information. The Office of Minority Health in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will accept applications through April 20. (HHS news release, 3/8/21)
