CDC: Obese adults at 60% higher risk of death from COVID-19
The risk of death from COVID-19 is more than 60% higher for obese adults than for their counterparts with a healthy body mass index (BMI), according to data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The risk of hospitalization with serious illness was also associated with higher BMIs. The increased risks of hospitalization and death were far lower, 7% and 8% respectively, for mildly obese adults. (UPI article, 3/8/21)
