Black Americans trail in COVID-19 vaccinations
An analysis of state and federal health data showed Black Americans receiving COVID-19 vaccinations at “dramatically lower” rates than their white counterparts, despite being disproportionately impacted by the disease. Experts attributed part of the gap to vaccine hesitancy among some Black Americans. Black physicians shared their thoughts on how to help members of the Black community overcome vaccine hesitancy with National Public Radio. Displaying empathy, using trusted messengers and empowering patients were among the strategies the physicians recommended. (Kaiser Health News article, 1/17/21)
