Program supports pediatric mental health
Experts from Dartmouth Health in Lebanon, N.H. discuss their five-part virtual behavior health training program on supporting youth experiencing mental health challenges. Speaking on an American Hospital Association podcast, the experts describe how the program, supported by a Health Resources and Services Administration grant, offers tools for care providers, including school nurses, principals, faith leaders, librarians and other community members. Participants learn how they can intervene with a student in distress, gain information about community resources available and interact with the youth’s family. The program has decreased the professional isolation experienced by some care providers in rural areas, which have few mental health professionals available to treat youth.
