Professional governance participation can improve resilience, hope
Nurses who participated in professional governance councils at Roper St. Francis Healthcare, based in Charleston, S.C., reported greater levels of hope, resilience and work effectiveness scores compared with those who did not participate, a study found. Published in the December issue of the Journal of Nursing Administration, the study concluded nurse leaders should encourage and create paths for nurses to participate in professional governance to build a “resilient, hopeful and empowered workforce.” The cross-sectional, descriptive study consisted of a survey 618 nurses at one community hospital, for a 43% response rate.
