Podcast outlines efforts to recruit, retain rural health workforce
Joanne Conroy, MD, CEO and president of Dartmouth Health, discusses in an American Hospital Association podcast how the rural academic medical center in Lebanon, N.H., has recruited and retained its workforce. The system has made 2,500 positions permanently remote and employs people in 35 states. To attract its in-person workforce, Dartmouth touts the nearby recreational offerings and subsidizes housing for clinical front-line providers. The health system is considering building housing for employees. Dartmouth also subsidizes public transportation and provides funding for early childhood educators to expand affordable childcare offerings for employees.
