Nursing faculty combat workplace incivility
A nursing program in upstate New York sought to address incivility after every faculty member said it was a major issue, and their efforts were detailed in the journal Nursing2023. The faculty engaged in unprecedented collaboration and communication during the COVID-19 pandemic to develop effective strategies for remote learning and to share their experiences. When the program hired faculty, it chose potential candidates based on their ability and commitment to work in a team environment and have zero tolerance for incivility. The program sought to enhance joy by celebrating accomplishments at faculty meetings, encouraging open communication and supporting faculty concerns. An anonymous evaluation survey sent after the program adopted the changes found 74% of participants responded they were experiencing joy at work.
