Nurse Leader Outlines Effective Infection Control Program
Communication, awareness and teamwork can build an effective infection control program. Front-line workers should feel comfortable communicating with leadership to address barriers preventing effective control, according to Carol Vance, MSN, RN, multisite prevention director for Advocate Children’s Hospital in Chicago. For example, leaders could ensure hand hygiene dispensers are located in an accessible place to make it seamless for front-line staff to use them. Hospitals need to create constant awareness of the importance of effective infection prevention, she said. While infection prevention is everyone’s role, hospitals should rely on the knowledge of infection preventionists to translate the latest guidance. (HealthLeaders Media article, 2/19/23)
